This week has been very light on the art front again, though I am going to call it my ‘gathering inspiration week’. I have spent the last 3 days in Vienna visiting friends and it’s been really refreshing to be in a new, vibrant space. It can be a little hard to have new creative ideas in the mundane of day to day life, though not impossible of course!
Here is what I have been up to out of the studio this week…
Exploring Vienna: One of the best things about Vienna has been all of the grand architecture. It’s full of vast palaces and ornate buildings. I have taken endless pictures of the little details scattered across the city. We have even visited a small botanical garden that has some lovely tropical plants. The bamboo in particular was very cool. It grows so incredibly fast it doesn’t quite seem real. How fascinating are the roots - I’ve never seen large bamboo up close before. It almost seems alien.
The trip to the history of art museum was also a highlight. The building itself is like an art installation and on a scale that is hard to describe. The walls are also full of incredible art too as you would expect. A particular favourite was this beautiful bouquet of flowers with all of the intricate insect details.
We still have one day here and I think we are just going to spend more time strolling through the city to see what we stumble across. It’s been great have a fresh new perspective and I feel I’ll be arriving home full of creativity and new ideas.
All in all a very successful trip!
